Strengthening the Black Family – Recap of 2016

By now, you are aware of the success the Douglass Leadership Institute had this year through our
Turning the Tide Initiative. Of the three important community programs that DLI held in several states,
Strengthening the Black Family hit home the hardest. Whether it is the shocking 72% non-marital
births statistic or the 35% of abortions performed on black women, those attending the forums were challenged
to take a stand and make a difference. You can learn more about these statistics in an article I wrote for
Lifenews.com. Click here to read.

“When people realize that a black child born today is less likely to be born into a two parent
household that a child born into slavery, they are shocked to silence”. Sunday School teacher, Charlotte NC.

Truly the topics we discussed do not have easy solutions; however, DLI included policy experts,
along with pastors and community leaders who shared faith-based solutions to the problems. One such solution
is the Family Life Campaign. This program was launched by the nation’s largest African-American
denomination, the Church of God in Christ.

These community based programs will only continue if you help to support them. Please prayerfully
consider a year end tax-deductible gift to DLI. You can help turn the tide of fatherlessness and abortion
in the urban America. Click here to give online (https://www.dlinstitute.org/dli/donate/) .

"I wholeheartedly support the work of Rev. Dean Nelson and DLI. They are making a difference in the black and urban communities. I encourage all to support their work." Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) DLI staff with Dr. Fred Luter, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention We continue to host community events. We will be at University City Church of God in Christ in Huntersville, NC, this Saturday (December 17) from 9am-1:30pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. You are always welcome to attend and/or share this event with others. Please RSVP here. To enhance our fundraising efforts, we launched a social media campaign called Take 5 Give 5 for DLI. The campaign is supported by people creating impromptu videos asking their friends and family to donate to Take 5 Give 5 for DLI. Please visit our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DLInstitute) to watch, like and share the message. "DLI under Dean Nelson’s leadership is a great ally in the battle for the heart and soul of America as they equip Christians with the practical tools they need to impact the culture for Christ." Hon. Tony Perkins, President Family Research Council. Our continued prayers go out to you and your family for a blessed holiday season. Living for Him, Rev. Dean Nelson, Chairman Douglass Leadership Institute Frederick Douglass Foundation
